Dublin

Online ordering for Dublin takeaways and restaurants

Dublin has close to half of Ireland's delivery-app storefronts and the most competition for every order. Here's what the market looks like in numbers, what the apps cost, and how your own ordering channel fits next to them.

Dublin is where Irish takeaways compete hardest for every order, and where delivery-app commission adds up fastest. An online ordering system of your own gives your regular customers a direct way to order, on your website and your own app, with card payments going into your own Stripe account. You keep the apps for new customers; you stop paying app commission on the people who already know you.

The OpenStreetMap figures cover the Dublin area and are a floor, not a total: small takeaways are often not mapped. Even so, Dublin County has more than twice as many food businesses as Cork, the next largest county. Ireland had over 8,000 storefronts across Just Eat, Deliveroo and Uber Eats at the end of 2023, and close to half of them were in Dublin.

That density shapes how people order. A customer in Rathmines or Drumcondra usually has a dozen pizza or Chinese takeaways within delivery range on any app. The app shows them side by side, sorted by promotions you pay for. A direct ordering site turns a repeat customer back into your customer.

What Dublin takeaways pay the apps

Uber Eats is the only one of the three big apps that publishes its Irish restaurant rates. Checked on 6 October 2026:

Uber Eats Ireland Rate
Uber delivers 30% (33% on Uber One orders)
You deliver, or the customer collects 13%
One-off activation fee €650, taken from payouts

RTÉ Brainstorm reported in August 2025 that the platforms take 25% to 35% of delivery orders. On a typical €25 Friday-night order, 30% is €7.50 before VAT on the commission. If 60 of your weekly orders are regulars who would happily order direct, that’s around €450 a week. Put your own numbers into the commission calculator, or read our Just Eat commission guide.

Delivering in Dublin

Dublin delivery is short-distance and high-volume. Most orders travel a few kilometres, but traffic, apartment blocks and one-way systems make the last few hundred metres slow. Three things matter:

  • Fees by distance. Set delivery fee bands by distance from your shop, a minimum order, and a free-delivery threshold if you want one. The fee is calculated automatically at checkout.
  • Your own drivers, with tracking. OrdFox includes driver dispatch, a driver app with proof of delivery, and live tracking for your customers. With Flipdish, driver tracking is a paid add-on.
  • Employment status. In October 2023 the Supreme Court ruled that Domino’s delivery drivers in the Karshan case were employees for tax purposes. If you hire drivers in Dublin, get advice on how they’re engaged.

You don’t need drivers to start. Many Dublin takeaways begin with collection and scheduled pre-orders, then add delivery once direct orders build up.

Frequently asked questions

Can I charge different delivery fees for different parts of Dublin?

Yes, by distance. With OrdFox you set delivery fee bands by distance from your shop, for example one fee up to 2 km and a higher fee up to 5 km, plus a minimum order and an optional free-delivery threshold. The fee is calculated automatically at checkout.

Can I keep Just Eat or Deliveroo while I start with my own ordering site?

Yes. Most Dublin takeaways keep the apps for new customers and move their regulars to their own site. OrdFox runs separately from the apps, so nothing changes on your Just Eat or Deliveroo tablet.

How long does it take to move my menu from Flipdish?

Your Flipdish menu is moved for you in 48 hours. The rest of the timeline depends on connecting your Stripe account for card payments and pointing your own domain at your ordering site, which we go through with you.

Do I need my own drivers in Dublin?

No. You can start with collection only and add delivery later. If you do use your own drivers, OrdFox includes driver dispatch, a driver app and live tracking for your customers on every plan.

How much does OrdFox cost for a Dublin takeaway?

Plans start from €45 a month billed annually (€59 monthly), ex. VAT, on a 12-month agreement. Setup is tailored and quoted before you commit. Online card payments carry a per-order platform fee that includes card processing, set out in your agreement.
