Pizza is the biggest category on Irish delivery apps: 28% of the country’s delivery-app storefronts listed pizza in 2023, ahead of burgers at 24%. It’s also a repeat order: plenty of customers order the same pizza from the same shop week after week. That makes pizza takeaways the clearest case for a direct ordering channel: regulars order from your own site, you keep the margin, and the apps go back to bringing you new customers.
The pizza market in Ireland
| Indicator | Figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Share of delivery-app storefronts listing pizza | 28% | Dashmote, 2023 |
| Delivery-app storefronts in Ireland | 8,000+ | Dashmote, 2023 |
| Pizza places mapped in the Dublin area | 270 | OpenStreetMap, Oct 2026 |
The OpenStreetMap count is a floor: many independent pizza takeaways aren’t mapped. Pizza also competes with large chains with their own apps and loyalty schemes, so an independent shop’s best defence is making it just as easy for its own regulars to order direct.
How pizza orders work online
A pizza menu is one of the hardest to put online well, because almost every item has choices. Your ordering site needs to handle:
- Half-and-half. Two toppings on one pizza. OrdFox supports half-and-half items on the online menu.
- Sizes and bases. Set them as required choices, so nobody checks out without picking a size.
- Extras. Extra cheese, dips and toppings as add-ons with their own prices.
- Meal deals. Build “2 pizzas + side + drink” as one item with required choice steps.
- Minimum order and delivery fee by distance. Set fee bands from your shop, and a free-delivery threshold if you want one.
- Coupons and loyalty. A code for a midweek offer, and a digital loyalty card for regulars.
Your Flipdish menu is moved for you in 48 hours. If you’re on GloriaFood, migration is free and done for you, with your menu back on OrdFox within 24 hours to review (GloriaFood migration).
Your own drivers after the Karshan ruling
The case that changed delivery work in Ireland was about pizza. On 20 October 2023, the Supreme Court ruled in Revenue v Karshan (Midlands) Ltd, trading as Domino’s Pizza, that the company’s delivery drivers were employees for tax purposes, not independent contractors. The court looked at control, uniforms, and drivers working as a core part of the business.
If you run your own drivers, take advice on how they’re engaged. On the software side, OrdFox includes driver dispatch, a driver app with proof of delivery and live tracking for your customers on every plan. With Flipdish, driver tracking is a paid add-on.
What the apps cost a pizza takeaway
Uber Eats publishes its Irish rates: 30% when Uber delivers (33% on Uber One orders) and 13% when you deliver or the customer collects, plus a €650 activation fee (checked on 6 October 2026).
| Weekly orders from regulars | Average order | 30% app commission per week |
|---|---|---|
| 50 | €26 | €390 |
| 100 | €26 | €780 |
VAT is normally charged on top. Run your own numbers in the commission calculator.
How OrdFox helps pizza takeaways
- Your own ordering site on your own domain, and your own iOS app on the Professional plan (Android is coming soon).
- Half-and-half, required choices, extras and deals on the online menu.
- Collection and delivery, with scheduled pre-orders for parties.
- Card payments into your own Stripe account.
- A counter and phone POS on any tablet, so phone orders and online orders share one screen, and a kitchen screen on the Complete plan.
Plans start from €45 a month billed annually (€59 monthly), ex. VAT, on a 12-month agreement. Setup is tailored and quoted before you commit. See pricing or compare OrdFox with Flipdish.
Frequently asked questions
Can customers order a half-and-half pizza online?
Yes. OrdFox's online menu supports half-and-half items, so a customer can pick two different toppings for each half of the same pizza, along with extras and required choices such as size or base.
Can I sell meal deals like 2 pizzas, a side and a drink?
Yes. You can build a deal as one menu item with required choice steps, for example choose your first pizza, your second pizza, a side and a drink, so the customer can't check out with a step missing.
Do I need my own delivery drivers?
No, you can start with collection only. If you have your own drivers, OrdFox includes driver dispatch, a driver app with proof of delivery, and live tracking for your customers on every plan.
Can I keep Just Eat or Deliveroo for new customers?
Yes. Most pizza takeaways keep the apps for discovery and move regular customers to their own ordering site. OrdFox runs separately from the apps, so your app tablets carry on as before.
