Kebab shops

Online ordering for kebab shops

Kebab shops sell small orders, late at night, to customers who come back every weekend. That's the worst combination for delivery-app commission, and a good one for your own ordering site.

Kebab shops do most of their trade late in the evening and at weekends, with order values that are small compared with a family pizza or Chinese banquet. Delivery apps charge a percentage of every order, so on a €15 kebab and chips the commission takes a big bite of the margin. Your own online ordering site gives regulars a direct way to order, rewards them for doing it, and keeps your drivers and customers connected with live tracking late at night.

Kebabs were the fifth-biggest cuisine on Irish delivery apps in 2023, after pizza, burgers, American food and chicken. Many kebab shops also sell pizza, burgers and chicken, so they compete in several app categories at once. The OpenStreetMap figure is a floor; many kebab shops are tagged simply as takeaways.

Why small, late orders suffer most on the apps

Commission is a percentage, so the euro amount per order is smaller on a cheap order, but your own costs per order are not: packaging, a driver’s time, card fees. Uber Eats publishes its Irish rates: 30% when Uber delivers (33% on Uber One orders) and 13% when you deliver or the customer collects, plus a €650 activation fee (checked on 6 October 2026). RTÉ Brainstorm reported in 2025 that platforms take 25% to 35% of delivery orders.

Order 30% app commission 13% app commission
€12 kebab €3.60 €1.56
€18 kebab meal with chips and drink €5.40 €2.34
€35 order for a group €10.50 €4.55

VAT is normally charged on top of commission. Put your own numbers into the commission calculator.

How kebab orders work online

  • Meal deals. Kebab, chips and a drink as one item with required choice steps.
  • Sauces and salad. Garlic, chilli, burger sauce, no onions: set as choices, so the ticket is clear at 1 a.m.
  • Sizes and extras. Regular or large, extra meat or cheese, priced as add-ons.
  • Minimum order and fees by distance. Protect the margin on small orders and long runs.
  • Coupons and a loyalty card. Give regulars a reason to order direct.

Your own drivers at night

If you deliver yourself, you need to know where your drivers are. OrdFox includes driver dispatch, a driver app with proof of delivery and live tracking for your customers, on every plan. With Flipdish, driver tracking is a paid add-on. If you engage drivers directly, take advice on employment status: in October 2023 the Supreme Court ruled that Domino’s delivery drivers in the Karshan case were employees for tax purposes.

How OrdFox helps kebab shops

  • Your own ordering site on your own domain; your own iOS app on the Professional plan (Android is coming soon).
  • Collection and delivery, a minimum order and delivery fees calculated by distance.
  • Card payments into your own Stripe account; cash on delivery can be switched on if you want it.
  • A counter and phone POS on any tablet, and a kitchen screen on the Complete plan with an alarm that keeps ringing until someone acknowledges the order.
  • Coupons and a digital loyalty card.

Your Flipdish menu is moved for you in 48 hours (switching from Flipdish). Plans start from €45 a month billed annually (€59 monthly), ex. VAT, on a 12-month agreement. Setup is tailored and quoted before you commit. See pricing.

Frequently asked questions

Can I set a minimum order for late-night delivery?

Yes. You set a minimum order value, delivery fee bands by distance from your shop and an optional free-delivery threshold. The customer sees how far they are from the minimum before they can check out.

Can I give regulars a discount for ordering direct?

Yes. OrdFox includes coupons, such as a percentage off or a euro amount off above a minimum spend, and a digital loyalty card, so you can reward customers who order on your own site instead of an app.

How do my drivers and customers know where the order is at night?

OrdFox includes driver dispatch, a driver app with proof of delivery, and live tracking for your customers on every plan. Orders are offered to your drivers from the dispatch screen, and the customer can follow the order to the door.

Is it worth it for a small kebab shop?

It depends on how many of your app orders are regulars. On a €15 order, Uber Eats Ireland's published 30% rate is €4.50 before VAT. If you move even a few dozen regular orders a week to your own site, that commission stays with you. The OrdFox commission calculator shows the monthly figure with your own numbers.
